Thanks to so many who made this year’s Half Marathon a Success

After a very challenging year with the 2011 Snowed-Out Half, the Race Committee and Club Officers were left with a lot to think about for the 2012 Half Marathon and how we proceed.

Here we are a year later and I was so glad to see so many smiling faces today at Schouler Park, both on the faces of the volunteers and the runners.   To move the race to have it become a loop course heading right down Route 16 was not an easy feat.

A huge and heartfelt thanks to Vince Viccaro and the countless hours he spent, along with Christie and Richie Girouard, getting permits, getting town and police buy-in, as well as mapping out the needs for close to 100 volunteers and then filling those volunteer spots.

Another huge thank you to everyone who did volunteer today to help make the event a success.  I think the race can only grow from here, showcasing our beautiful valley and wonderful running club, and continuing to be our primary fundraising event.

And last, a big thanks to the Conway Police Department, who set up what I would consider to be the finest coverage I have ever seen at a road race, ensuring the proper balance between keeping traffic flow moving and keeping the runners safe.

I look forward to next year’s Half and also would appreciate hearing anything thoughts or comments you had on the event.  You can email me at pkirsch2@gmail.com with your ideas and thoughts.
